After a splashing East Village debut, Jack & Benny Lipson return to Club Cumming this Christmastide with When There’s Music. The twin composers, songsters, and multi- instrumentalists “bound towards what’s next in the world of sound,” where their jazz, theater, and classical roots score trenchant lyrics at once satirical and optimistic, contemporary and utterly nostalgic. The brothers split vocal duties with Jack tickling fancies at the piano and Benny plucking heartstrings at the bass, plus percussionist David Lamoreaux completes their mighty trio. In an exhibition of pieces hilarious, sentimental, even zany, the Lipsons guide audiences on a candid tour through the millennial mind.
Jack & Benny Lipson shared their debut show in 2016 with musician-comedian Reggie Watts; they’ve since played their "sensational, clever, and astute" songs across the country in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Maine and Wyoming, where the Wyoming Theater Festival presented their original “musicalette" Miranda, Please! The brothers have supported such icons as Idina Menzel, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, and Barry Manilow in concerts at Disney Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, and recently co-curated and -orchestrated a Weimar-era Berlin cabaret for the LA Philharmonic.
