Based on the true story of a queer witch whose Christian neighbors go cult mode. Awarded "Best Solo Show" at Edinburgh Fringe.
Gretchen Wylder's darkly comedic one-woman show (Spookies Award for “Best Solo Show” at Edinburgh Fringe ‘25) is based on her lived experience of being a queer, professional tarot reader forced to leave her home due to creepy Christian neighbors likely in a cult. Set in present-day Salem, MA, this narrative explores witches as healers, the patriarchal systems that burned them, and the modern dangers of organised religion.
Living a double life – reading tarot in Salem's spooky season while living in an isolated cottage town run by zealots – her personal horror show becomes a fierce reclamation of spirituality. Wylder reinterprets Biblical women’s stories and exposes the ongoing persecution of the divine feminine, all while trying not to get burned at the stake.
